Fall Cleanup 2025

Fall cleanup of Josh’s Arches raised beds, harvest and prep for a new garlic site 😀

Pulled tomatoes, brassicas, carrots and random onions from this Josh's Arches bed. Still have Swiss chard, snapdragons, salvia, spinach seedlings and corn salad.

These brassica roots reached ground level! I rarely watered through the drought so the benefit of deep raised beds is that plant roots will grow downward to find water.

Lots of "short and sweet" carrots.

In the second bed, I kept one brassica for fresh leaves for the ducks and one stalk of broccoli seed pods I'll use for next year.

I'm adding chicken compost as soil amendment. It's a lot like trifecta as it has the poo and feathers and also the sand the poo falls down into at night - which is good for drainage.

Puppy Hope "helps" 😆

In the third bed at Josh's Arches, I've discovered something living in tunnels......

This bed soil only reaches halfway up the the sides. It was 3/4 filled with chicken coop and pen cleanout - lots of dirty straw - which has broken down over the warm months. No rain meant a comfy life for whatever is inside..

I'll stir up the soil to disturb the tunnels, then add my regular soil mix to top it off.
