Beat the Heat!

πŸ’§ This morning I made sure the ducks and chickens had lots of fresh water and shade. I also tossed a bucket of freshly pulled weeds to them. That will keep them busy and shade and cool the ground as well. They can nestle into the weed mulch and enjoy any bugs that hide underneath.

πŸ’§ I also watered my newest plants, seedlings and newly planted tree I bought at Christmas time.

πŸ’§ When days are over 80, water what you want to keep. You may have to water both in the am and pm!

🌧 Do NOT rely on storm downpours as that water comes down so fast, it usually runs right off the surface. (And check new seeds to make sure they aren't washed away).

🌧 DO consider installing a few rain barrels at your downspouts as they fill very quickly with a storm.

🌞 Beat the heat, Macomb! Get out and weed before work or before going to bed. Weeds without seeds? Drop them where you pulled them! The less effort and more comfortable you are, the better maintenance of your garden - and more enjoyment πŸ˜‰

🌞 Beat the Heat this week, Macomb!

Block the Sunshine from coming through your windows with blackout curtains - south side mainly.

Pull in cooler morning air and close up the house by 9 am until evening when it cools down again.

Circulate the air in the house.

Remember that electric companies charge more in the peak hours between 3 pm and 7 pm...planting trees to shade the southwest side of your house can help a lot!

🌧 Rainwater is usually best for watering! And I have a free water guide available on my website πŸ˜€
